The commitment

Free forever.

This page exists so you can hold me to my word. The plan is written down, dated, and public. If I ever break it, you'll have the receipts.

The social layer is never paywalled.

Public profiles, sharing, follows, comments, discovery, the character sheet — every feature that connects you to other players stays in the free tier. Forever. Locking those behind a paywall defeats the entire point of the product.

Monetization is affiliate links and donations only.

When traffic eventually needs to pay for itself, the plan is Steam / GOG / Humble affiliate links on game cards, and optional donations. That's it. No ads, no data brokerage, no subscription tiers for core features.

Why write it down?

Most "free" products are free until the founder finds a business model, then they aren't. Backloggd is Patreon-funded — fine for now, but there's no public commitment that the social features stay free. Grouvee has been free for over a decade with no rule against it changing. Every game tracker has the same unwritten footnote: "free until we decide otherwise."

This commitment is the opposite — written down, dated, public. If it ever gets broken, you can screenshot this page and tell everyone you know. That's the point.

So how does it stay alive?

The site runs on Cloudflare's free tier, which means the hosting bill is genuinely zero at small scale. When traffic eventually outgrows that, the money plan is:

  • Affiliate links on game cards (Steam, GOG, Humble). Zero friction for you; small cut for me on purchases you'd make anyway.
  • Donations. Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee, the usual. Opt-in, no perks gated behind it.

What this rules out

Specifically and forever:

  • No subscription tiers for core features (logging games, ratings, public profile, journal, search, library).
  • No ads. Not banners, not interstitials, not sponsored game placements.
  • No selling your game library or activity data.
  • No artificial limits on game count, tags, or platforms.
